About Kehinde

This fourth series is based on the works of Kehinde Wiley , an African American painter renowned for former President Barack Obama’s official portrait. I was drawn to the complexity of his paintings, the colors used and particularly his backgrounds. I focused on certain elements, patterns or color of his paintings to create my self-portraits. Re-creating or re-imagining Kehinde’s backgrounds was a great challenge, and pushed me to be more creative and improved in my editing and composition skills by using elements and/or items around me.
